Excerpted Student Comments
“Her ability to engage with students is very connective, relating to students' ideas and cultural understanding to allow for apparent and straightforward explanations. She also has a specific talent for covering the topic of data collection, giving students a tremendous foundational understanding of where various sources of data came from that are central to the ideas of social science covered in the course.” (PS 231, Fall 2022)
“My TA was very good at organizing discussions that related to the books we were reading and tying it to the lectures. Another strength is that she was always open to scheduling office hours and was open to answering questions. When I wanted to review an exam, she was very good about going over my strengths and weaknesses along with areas of improvements. She taught me how to think more analytical and how to approach the exam prompts.”
(PS 231, Fall 2022)
“She always did a nice job of encouraging students to think about materials in new ways and from different angles, and while it does mean more work and a higher standard, making us ask and then answer complex questions really did deepen my understanding of coursework and readings. The small groups we did in section were also very helpful, sometimes TAs just go full group the whole time and nobody talks, which is just inefficient, so I liked how she structured sections in that way.” (PS 231, Fall 2022)
“Kennia Coronado is a wonderful TA. She did a great job of clarifying the content that we went over in class. A lot of the political science ideas are abstract and confusing, but she helped me to really understand the arguments described in the Enduring Debate textbook. Kennia was respectful, she asked thought provoking questions and really challenged us to think critically about the content being discussed.” (PS 104, Fall 2019)
“Good job with regards to connecting with students about possible effects of topics discussed in the class on their lives. Intro level course, so for a lot of people it was their first experience with college and she helped ground it in actual experiences.” (PS 104, Fall 2019)
Undergraduate Researcher Comments
“Over the past months, working with Kennia Coronado has changed the scope of my academic career. From the moment I met her to embark on my first research experience, I knew she would be an individual that would positively impact me. From learning how to navigate research and academia, Kennia has provided the foundations for me to learn and grow. Working with her, I have noticed that she strives to ensure her mentees understand the research process in a comprehensive manner. Beyond being my mentor for my research, she has given me much insight regarding graduate school. She believes her mentees deserve to be equipped with such knowledge as they continue their collegiate careers. Kennia is a wonderful mentor who strives to work with others and create positive change!”
“I am so glad that I was able to have an experience doing undergraduate research with Kennia. Kennia was thorough in her description of tasks as well as the learning and teaching process. She created an environment between mentor and mentee in which I felt comfortable asking questions and reaching out for assistance. Kennia was thoughtful in her division of work, always ready to make accommodations when needed. Overall, I am so grateful to have gained such valuable research and interpersonal skills during my time collaborating with Kennia.”
“Working with Kennia as my mentor has been a great experience. She is highly knowledgeable about her research, and it is not just a dissertation but a true passion. She has always been well-organized and prepared, which is crucial to my first undergraduate research experience. Kennia met me where I was in terms of my experience and knowledge, and helped me grow from there, which I appreciate because instead of becoming confused and falling behind, I am gaining valuable research experience. Kennia is the first to tell other mentees and me about different scholarships, graduate school, and other campus opportunities for us to explore. I appreciate Kennia's leadership; she has been amazing to work with.”
”Working under Kennia’s supervision has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. With everyone coming from different places in terms of established knowledge and skill, she took the time to explain various procedures and practices to help us succeed. She is easily accessible to ask questions and work through difficulties. She is extremely passionate about the work she is doing, and you can easily see this when you talk with her; her excitement is contagious. Kennia is dedicated to making sure that her research mentees experience a welcoming environment where their thoughts, experiences, and ideas are valued. Working under her has been thought-provoking, shaping my future academic and career aspirations, and I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to do so.”
”Throughout this school year, my collaboration with Kennia has been truly transformative. From our initial encounter to diving into the research project, Kennia’s guidance has been invaluable every step of the way. She not only explained the details of research and set clear expectations but also demonstrated exceptional flexibility in accommodating our busy schedules and understanding any personal challenges. Kennia fostered a safe and encouraging environment where questions were welcomed, and opinions were valued. Having some prior experience in research, I had some expectations, but Kennia exceeded them effortlessly. Her mentorship style illustrates how a mentor should be. She doesn’t just guide; she empowers. Reflecting on our research, I am immensely grateful for the wealth of knowledge and skills I’ve gained under Kennia’s mentorship.”
